The image above is titled “Scratched Beach,” a gelatin silver lith print (printed 2012).

“Scratched Beach” is the original inspiration behind the “Sand Castle Chronicles” project -- an emerging project that I have been working on from time to time over the last couple years. I had taken my pinhole camera and some Polaroid type 55 P/N to the beach just south of Mendocino, California with nothing particular in mind, and these marks in the sand were just -- there. A magical moment that would never occur again. Inspired by what seemed to be a sketch by a child, I started building sand castles and photographing them.
